Bringing Experience, Dedication and Innovation to the 37th Middlesex District

Tsongas endorses Eldridge
The Harvard Post, 5/26/08

Hudson - Once rivals on the campaign trail in last year’s special election in Massachusetts’ Fifth Congressional district, Niki Tsongas and Jamie Eldridge came together Saturday morning in a demonstration of political support.  Tsongas endorsed Eldridge in his campaign to succeed retiring state Sen. Pam Resor and represent the Middlesex & Worcester district in the Massachusetts state Senate.

“During last year’s campaign, I got to see Jamie connect with voters, and it became clear why his constituents have such a positive opinion of him,” the Congresswoman said in a statement. “Jamie understands deeply the concerns of families throughout the region. He gets the importance of investing in our communities to create jobs, improve our infrastructure and public education, and keep our neighborhoods safe and vibrant. I am pleased to endorse his campaign for state Senate, and I look forward to our continued work together on behalf of our constituents.”

In thanking Tsongas for her support, Eldridge echoed the importance of teamwork at all levels of government to address the challenges our communities face.

“Our towns’ and cities’ budgets are stretched tight; and, cuts in our local budgets result in fewer teachers in our schools and fewer cops on our streets,” said Eldridge. “That is why I have fought so hard to protect local aid at the state level. As your state senator, I will fight every day, as I have as state representative, to work with officials at the federal, state, and local levels to strengthen our communities.”

Following the endorsement, Tsongas and Eldridge visited Victor’s 50’s Diner at the Rotary in Hudson to greet diners and discuss issues in the upcoming election.

Representative Eldridge is the only Democrat in the race to succeed Senator Pam Resor, who has also endorsed Eldridge.
