ACTON AWARDED CHILD FIRE EDUCATION GRANT

BOSTON- Representative James Eldridge (D-Acton) is pleased to announce that the second and final round of grants for the fiscal year 2003 Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) Program have been awarded.  The town of Acton has received $1,400.00.

“Educating our children in fire safety is a proven method in saving lives,” said Rep. Eldridge.  “The positive ethics brought forth by this program is well worth the small taxpayer investment.  This program is a great bang for the buck,” Eldridge added.

Since the S.A.F.E. Program began seven years ago, Massachusetts has shown a marked decrease in the number of child fire deaths.  This program helps provide comprehensive, statewide public fire education to children in the Commonwealth.  Preventing fires through education will help stretch fire department budgets a bit further and sustain the effort to raise a fire-safe generation of children.  The program is proof positive that public fire education works.

The Executive Office of Public Safety has provided funds from various federal grant sources to the Department of Fire Services for the continuation of the S.A.F.E. program.
